Nepali Girls (rural)

Educating Mountain’s Girls

An ongoing project to empower mountain’s girls

According to official data, percentage of primary school enrollment students is 97%. However, 45% of them dropped the school before completing their primary school. And high number of girls comes with along the data. Cultural traditions, an unsuitable schooling environment and financial problems are major reasons for it. It is rare that girls coming from poor and Dalit families in rural villages of Nepal had an education. Children, especially girls, have to help their parents in the field. Poor parents could not afford stationery materials, uniform, tuition fee, and school’s bag. These insist their children to leave the school. In the other hand growing population of girls as desire of boys arise problems to send all daughters in school for better education. Girls are treated as unwanted child.

KERE Kids Nepal (Gramin Balmaitri Sikshya Nepal) has been working hard to bring aquality education for mountain’s school since 2015 as well as gender equality via educating girls. We believe educating girls is preparing a better family. So, we basically focus on girls’ education.

KERE Kids Nepal officially launches a sponsorship program for 20 mountains girls in five schools in Myagdi district. Four needy girl students will be selected from each school. The school management committee and teachers will recommend the students. However, KERE Kids Nepal will make a final decision. Each student will be sponsored with required materials for a year. The materials are: school uniform and bag, exam fee, stationery materials (copies, pens, pencils, reference books et cetera). In an average, this would be equivalent to $100 per student per year. Investing in girls’ education will bring the highest return in individuals, families and communities.

Donate Now

KERE Kids Nepal will continue “Educating Mountain’s Girls” project and in each next year 20% of total students under sponsorship will be added and this goes on continually. This is an ongoing project, and KERE Kids Nepal requests all good heart people to support.We are choosing 20 girls from five different schools. They are following;

  • * Kranti Basic School
  • * Prava Secondary School
  • * Narchyang Lower Secondary School
  • * Nilgiri Basic School
  • * Gyan Prakash Secondary School

We request all the kind people to open their heart to sponsor those mountain girls who are waited for sponsoring.

Warm Clothes Distribution Campaign

Namaste Everyone,

As you all know that KERE KIDS NEPAL is working with public and government schools in Himalayan region. It belongs to Annapurna circuit. It is winter in Nepal and temperature of the region is almost like freezing at night and 3/4 degree at day time. In school, there is not any kind of heating system except sun in day time. Classrooms of the school’s are made by stone and cement. Because of concrete building, classrooms are always cold.

In another hand, parents of children are generally poor and work in farm. They hardly manage food for their children for twice a day. So it is very critical for kids to be warm and healthy. Children needs sweater, gloves, cap and socks but parents are not able to manage all those things. Due to the cold, every year 40 children are victimized by common cold and pneumonia among 100 of them.

KERE KIDS NEPAL has done day to day survey to find out how many children have assessed with warm clothes and we found only 5% have. It is because of poorness of family as well as being joint family. Parents can’t afford clothes for all children.

In school, students are always staying outside in ground to make them warm in sun. They can’t get proper lesson outside of classroom. It is hard to achieve educational goals without scientific classroom. Students can’t assess their regular phenomena in classroom which might be harmful for students. Teaching learning activities can be affected.

So, KERE KIDS NEPAL is looking donation for 50 students in Nilgiri Basic School, in first campaign. If you love to support our students to buy warm clothes, please kindly contact myself or donate on this website. Cap and sweater costs $10 and we are looking for 50 students.

Thank you again for your help. And Happy Christmas and New Year.

First-Aid Campaign

KERE KIDS NEPAL has organized first-aid campaign in five schools. These schools are located in Himalayan region. Hospital and other kind of health facilities are not available in short time. By the research of organization, first-aid campaign is one of the fruitful programs and it helps to improve the health care of students and be ware about the sanitation too.

Due to the poverty and uneducated manner, parents are not eligible to provide nutritious food and health education to their children. That why, fever common cold, headache. Stomach paining are being normal here in school.  In another hand, geographical structure of area is different and lots of ups and down. Students come to school by walking like 1hour and more than hour. Lots of accidents also happen on the way to school.

Our kind volunteer Anneliese support us to buy first-aid tools and boxes in five schools. She is also skin specialist and good knowledge in hygiene and sanitation. She has visited schools and finalized herself to help schools with first-aid kit.

What is Montessori?

Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potentials. Montessori Method creates an environment for young children that enable them to be independent, active and learn. Montessori approach mainly focus to freedom of learning. The prepared environment makes learning materials and experience available to children in orderly format. Montessori describes really what educators advocate when they talk about child-centered education and active learning. Freedom is the essential characteristic of prepared environment. Since children within the environment are free to explore materials of their own choosing, they observe what they find there.

Our Goal of Training

Mainly our project wants to transform the traditional method of teaching learning. In the working site of our project, here are altogether seventeen schools within ECD levels. All schools are funded by government and the community based. They are facing lots of problem about scientific learning and the modern technology. Government applies some methods of teaching and learning method in those schools but it promotes only traditional approach of learning. It can’t fulfill the real demand of teaching approach in early child development. So, KERE KIDS NEPAL basically transforms the methods of teaching and learning by having a training in these areas.

Our goals are followings:-

  • To change the approach of teaching and learning
  • To develop the classroom of ECD levels
  • To utilize the local resource
  • To take out the inner quality of students through this training

Need of Training

Since the traditional methods of teaching learning activities carried in the rural area like once has not been much fruitful and it’s a huge needs to transform and have notice worth the positive changes in teaching learning method. The challenges like untrained teachers, ignorant parents and developing communities prevalent project. The necessities of skill enhancing programs to the facilitator especially in growing pre-school and early school children. The following points in our project points of view justifies the need of Montessori Teachers Training for the teachers of our schools.

  • To promote child friendly environment in classroom and school territory as traditional notion of teacher student relation is hegemonies
  • To enhance child centered learning
  • To develop and have significant achievement of different skills like muscle and language skills, practical skills, motor skills and community skills in students through Montessori approach of teaching learning
  • To teach self-discipline and organized behavior in order through Montessori teaching learning method
  • To overcome and transform traditional teaching learning approach into learning by doing and playing
  • To encourage students skills of co-operative play
  • To inspire creativity in teaching learning method
  • To develop and implement ECD (early child development) curriculum to rid of the students from burden of traditional curriculum
  • To individualize system and order in the students
  • To encourage teachers to facilitator, the learning experience system
  • To enhance teachers with classroom language
  • To inculcate the modern teaching learning approach I teachers through Montessori Training
  • To transform teachers into facilitators for liberator and pupils guide
  • To train teachers as colors, origami and krigamiet
  •  Overall to have a significant achievement of children and schools

Beneficial schools and teachers

KERE KIDS NEPAL works altogether seventeen schools of northern Myagdi district. There are four secondary schools and thirteen primary schools. There are altogether 120 teachers and seventeen ECD teachers. They are untrained and not highly qualified. They don’t get opportunity to have such kind of training. We are trying to train teachers and development of their quality as well as schools.

By this training nearly 50 ECD teachers are directly beneficial. We are going to participate other neighbor’s school teachers too. They also don’t get this kind of training and they also interested of this training. So, by this training many teachers become beneficial.
