KERE Kids Nepal - volunteers

Volunteer Program

Introduction

Kere Kids Nepal is a non-profit organization. It aims to improve the educational outcomes for children in the rural villages of the Myagdi district, by providing better resources and support in our local government schools.

Our organisation is run by local teachers who donate many hours of time every month and their own money and resources to support as many children and schools as possible in the district.

We also rely on the kind support of overseas donations and volunteers to help us resource schools with basic school room resources which are taken for granted in western countries, like school books, school bags, colouring in pencils and access to the internet.

Kere Kids Nepal offers volunteer programs in the following areas:

  • Teaching English Language
  • Teaching Arts (music, dance, painting, drawing, photography and creativity)
  • Cultural exchange
  • Fundraising

Volunteers can start their journey from Pokhara. They can get on local bus or any jeep up to Beni. It takes nearly three hours from Pokhara to Beni. Then after, they can again get on bus from Beni to Tatopani. It takes another two hours. Then after you will be in Tatopani at the office of KERE Kids Nepal.

Accommodation and food

Volunteers are able to stay in a guest house that we arrange for them, or are free to make their own arrangements.

The basic volunteer guesthouse we arrange costs US$10 per night per person and includes food & accommodation. It is traditional Nepali style and will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Dal Bhat is Nepali traditional food and is usually served at lunch and dinner.) Wifi is included.

If you have other requirements, please let us know and we can help arrange more suitable accommodation.

Work time

Our school day is from 10am to 3pm. Volunteers are able to be provided with school materials to use or may wish to bring their own. Volunteers are also able to teach children other topics of interest, with prior agreement with the volunteer supervisor.

Many volunteers bring resources for the school and children, either from their home country or after arriving in Nepal. This includes second hand books collected from their school at home. Our children do not have access to many books or other stationary, so this is very much appreciated.
